Competition in past years has been quite spirited for this prestigious award and the bragging rights that go with it. Makes a great display in the lobby too! As before, the event will take place on the beach in front of Rickie’s Flamingo Cafe.
Registration forms available at Marco Travel / Caicu Naniki Sports Adventures in Caicos Cafe Plaza in Grace Bay. Entry fee is $55 per swimmer. More details on the event can be found at http://www.ecoseaswim.com
Now going into its 5th year, the annual “Race for the Conch” has brought in many competitors with their families and friends from North America, Europe, and Caribbean islands. It has also provided a well-organized venue for local swimmers to engage in open water racinat its finest. And it has definitely put Turks & Caicos, and Grace Bay in particular, on the global map as a destination for swim competition and training.
This year we have added a 1/2 mile distance to the standard 1 mile and 2.4 mile distances to encourage more people to participate. We also have a 100 meter Children’s Swim for youngsters 11 and under.
Immediately following the swim races at 11:15 am, we will host a 1 mile stand-up paddle board race around the same swim buoys. We anticipate quite a bit of interest in that as well to make for a big day on the water.
In conjunction with the “Race for the Conch,” we are organizing Swim Marathon Turks & Caicos from Sandy Pt., North Caicos to Grace Bay, 21 km (13 miles), for professional Japanese distance swimmer Yuko Matsuzaki. This first-ever swim for down the Caicos Cays will take about 5 hours and finish at Grace Bay Club around noon.
