THE TCHTA RETURNS FROM BERMUDA WITH OPTIMISM FOR THE REGION

PROVIDENCALES, Turks and Caicos Islands: Monday, April 27th, 2009 – Earlier this month, the Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA), attended the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference (CHTIC) in Bermuda.

The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference is the leading forum for communication, networking and deal-making for the hospitality and tourism investment community in the Caribbean region. The Conference goals are to inform, enlighten and to provide time for networking experiences for the delegates to conduct their business face-to-face while at the conference.

This year the Conference attracted over 40 different nations and hundreds of investors, hotel owners, lenders, hotel chain executives, developers, financial advisors, mortgage brokers, real estate agents, lawyers, designers, architects, tourism officials, timeshare developers and government officials. Also in attendance from the Turks & Caicos Islands were Mark Durliat, Managing Partner from Grace Bay Hotels, Gary Brough, Managing Director of KPMG, and Clayton Been, Inward Investment Manager for TC Invest.

Delegates were able to choose from a wide variety of Breakout Sessions, Development Track Workshops and Plenary Sessions, which focused on the current status of the hospitality industry and forecasts for the region. Leading experts provided information on the outlook for investment in the region, new trends and opportunities, and solutions to challenges in development and ownership. There were also many opportunities such as the opening reception, networking reception and the closing dinner to meet and exchange ideas with fellow delegates, speakers, dignitaries and colleagues.

Caesar Campbell, CEO of the TCHTA said, “The conference was a great opportunity to network and build relationships and we met with many potential investors, bankers, developers and hoteliers. While tourism-related investments and arrivals are down, there was a sense of cautious optimism that the Caribbean continues to be a choice region for tourism investment opportunities, as well as a vacation destination. To ensure the region thrives, Caribbean tourism officials will have to find ways in which to creatively market their destinations, individually, and as a region”.
