Sponsorship to Provide School Enhancements and Positive Exposure to Hotel/Tourism Careers

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands - May 25, 2007 - The Turks & Caicos Hotel Association (TCHTA) adopted the Iris Stubbs Primary School in South Caicos as a way to give back to the community and encourage interest and understanding of the opportunities presented by the hotel and tourism industry. TCHTA president, Butch Clare and Chief Executive Officer of TCHTA, Caesar Campbell met with head teacher, Mrs. Kathleen Durham to announce the sponsorship and determine how the TCHTA can help support upcoming projects of the school and its most urgent needs.

"We are honored by this gesture and greatly appreciate the support," said Mrs. Durham of the Iris Stubbs Primary School. "Fortunately, we did not suffer any major damage to our classrooms from the recent flooding, so the focus of this support can be geared to helping us improve the condition of the playground and outside areas. This is a major initiative for us, as all three schools from the island use our playground for sports activities. I'm sure having the TCHTA involved with the school will also result in other benefits such as giving our children a better understanding of the hotel/tourism business."

The school would like to get a proper track installed, acquire new playground equipment and properly landscape the area so that all the children in South Caicos can take advantage of the space. In addition to beautification measures, the school hopes to build an auditorium and is creating a wish list of its day to day needs. The wish list includes basic items such as copy paper and electronic sharpeners to bigger things such as CD/DVD players and a heavy-duty photocopier.

"Education and tourism go hand in hand and our future depends on both," said Mr. Butch Clare, Chairman and President of the TCHTA. "As our adopted school, the Iris Stubbs Primary School will receive our full support. We intend to contribute to educational and beautification programs of the school and provide the children with early and positive exposure to the hotel and tourism industry. We hope that our involvement with the school will not only result in better facilities but in children who have a passion and drive for building a tourism-based career."

This is the first school that the TCHTA has adopted on behalf of the association. Some of the members have adopted schools independently.
