TCHTA SHOWCASES THE TCI AT MAJOR EUROPEAN SHOW ITB PROVIDENCALES, Turks and Caicos Islands: Friday, March 27th, 2009 – The Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA) recently returned from ITB Berlin, an international travel exhibition and a platform which represents the entire product segment of the travel industry, to develop new ideas, global approaches and targeted marketing. The underlining message at this year’s show was that, in times of crisis more market players are making increasing use of industry shows such as this to develop new business approaches and strategies to survive. ITB attracted record number of visitors this year and over 11,000 international exhibitors. During the exhibition in Germany’s capital, the TCHTA met with the Travel Channel to discuss promotional opportunities to market the Turks & Caicos Islands as a ‘must visit’ destination. They also met with British Airways, where initial conversations to introduce a second weekly flight to Providenciales have now developed into the planning stages. The Association also met with Condé Nast Traveler magazine to discuss ongoing marketing partnerships for the forthcoming year and beyond. Caesar Campbell, CEO of the TCHTA emphasized the importance of these trips to overseas travel shows, “It’s essential for us to have a presence at major shows such as these. ITB alone attracted 180,000 visitors and there was a positive mood among exhibitors. It was a good opportunity for us to position the Turks & Caicos Islands at the forefront of people’s minds. It’s an ideal forum for establishing new contacts and attracts high-ranking professionals with decision-making powers”. A survey carried out by the ITB organizers revealed that travel behaviour would change this year, with 68% expecting an increased demand for last-minute travel. Campbell continued, “It’s likely that we may experience more last minute travel to the TCI for 2009 and the tourism industry across our islands should expect reservations to follow a different pattern from previous years”. Whilst in Europe, the TCHTA visited leading tour operator, Viaggidea in Milan Italy, where there were discussions of initiating a route via the city to Providenciales. There are more overseas industry meetings planned for the coming months in the USA and the Caribbean and the TCHTA plans to attend the major annual event, the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference being held in Bermuda in April this year.   About the TCHTA The Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA) represents a wide range of members from hotels and resorts to insurance companies and financial service providers, from watersports operators to catering outlets, from taxi drivers to human resources. The Association aims to assist the organizations through networking opportunities, training, promotional activities and representation at all levels of decision-making in the Turks and Caicos Islands and the region.
