Members of the Turks & Caicos Hotel Association (TCHTA) along with Premier, Hon. Michael Misick met last week in the annual general meeting (AGM) to prepare for another year of growth and development in the hospitality industry. At the meeting, the results of the election of the TCHTA Board of Directors for 2008 were announced. The 2008 board will include Butch Clare as president; Diderick van Regemorter as vice president and the following directors: Beverly Williams, Eugene Burns, Nikheel Advani, Don Dagenais, Stacy Cox, Karen Whitt, Alvin Maier along with an honorable member from the Chamber of Commerce and the association executive Caesar Campbell.

The AGM was held on Thursday, January 31, 2008 and included Hon. Premier Michael Misick who discussed the importance of generating steady and strong year-round tourist arrivals from all parts of the world. He gave an update on several initiatives aimed at supporting this goal including the $79 million airport redevelopment, the hospital construction and environmental protection programs. He also pointed out that to offset the costs of these projects, the departure tax will increase but there will be no other direct taxation.

“The presence and participation of the Premier at the TCHTA AGM underscores the significance of tourism and helped make the meeting productive and informative,” said Mr. Butch Clare, president of the TCHTA.
In addition to an industry outlook from the Premier, the meeting included a discussion of the marketing and advertising plan for the year and a presentation from the Freeman Group’s Promises Training Programme.
